Cartridge Service Life Indicator Debuts

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2015

3M has created a respirator cartridge that allows its user to see when the cartridge needs to be replaced.

The 3M Organic Vapor Service Life Indicator Cartridges 6000i Series can be used on a company’s current respirator cartridge change schedule or replace it in some cases, according to the company.

The indicator, when used in “appropriate environments,” can help determine when the cartridge is no longer effective against hazardous vapors, according to 3M. It also can help to optimize cartridge change schedules across workers because it indicates service life based on individual exposure to hazardous vapors and worker breathing patterns.

To determine if the indicator can be used in a certain environment, 3M recommends visiting the Select & Service Life Software page on its website and following the prompts to select the exposed vapor hazards in that environment.
