Deadline Nears for Tank of the Year
Tank coating manufacturer Tnemec announced that time is running out to submit nominations for its tenth annual Tank of the Year competition.
Nominations are due by close of business (5 p.m. CDT) Thursday, Oct. 1 for projects that demonstrate an innovative, creative use of the company’s coatings on water tanks.
Award-winning tanks and all runners-up and honorable mentions will be featured in the company’s annual wall calendar.
Nomination Details
New construction and renovation projects on all tank styles are eligible as long as they are completed by the Oct. 1 deadline.
Complete details are available at tnemec.com/tankoftheyear, where nominations can also be submitted.
All electronic nomination forms must include one or two photos of the tank, as well as project information, such as project location, completion date and coating system used, among others.
Determining the Winners
By Monday, Oct. 5, all nominees will be placed in an online ballot and voting opens to the public.
“Anyone is able, and encouraged, to vote,” Doug Hansen, Tnemec’s Director of Sales – Water Tank Market, said when the contest opened.

Of the 12 finalists in the 2014 contest, the Lebanon, MO, tank received the most votes and was honored as the "People's Choice." |
The online voting process will select a #TeamContemporary and #TeamClassic winner, as well as the top 12 favorites. From the top 12 choices, a judging committee of “water tank enthusiasts” will select the Tank of the Year.
Finalists will be judged on several criteria, including artistic value, significance of the tank to the surrounding community, and challenges encountered during the project, according to Tnemec.
Winners will be made known over the course of three days. The #TeamContemporary and #TeamClassic winners will be revealed Oct. 21, and the Top 12 finalists on Oct. 22. The overall winner of the 2015 Tank of the Year contest is slated to be announced Oct. 23.
2014 Winners
Rising to the top from 235 entries, Tnemec’s 2014 Tank of the Year winner was a 2-million-gallon composite tank in Midland, TX. The T-Bar Well Field elevated tank was erected in the Permian Basin area of western Texas, which produces one-fifth of the nation’s total petroleum and natural gas output.
The tank is adorned with a design that represents the local oilfield community and showcases its motto: “Feel the Energy.”
“The logo was a big reason this tank in Midland was chosen as Tnemec’s 2014 Tank of the Year,” said Lane Salvato, coating consultant with The Barry Group LLC.
