Axalta Names New VP, EMEA President
Axalta Coating Systems has announced the appointment of Matthias Schönberg as Vice President of Axalta and President of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Schönberg joins Axalta after 17 years with Continental AG, where his numerous leadership positions most recently included serving as Executive Vice President, as well as CEO of its ContiTech Fluid Technology business.
He will take office on Oct. 1.
Leadership Experience
During his time with Continental AG, Schönberg was steeped in multi-brand, multi-channel and distributor-oriented business models and working closely with automotive OEMs.
At Axalta, he will be charged with driving the growth strategy of the EMEA region. He will also steer development in order to advance products and services to meet customer expectations.
"Matthias’s extensive senior leadership roles over the last 14 years in Europe as well North and South America in the automotive and automotive aftermarket sectors bring an exceptional combination of skills to Axalta,” Charlie Shaver, Axalta’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said in a Sept. 16 statement.
Shaver added that, as part of the global team, Schönberg will work to put the company’s nearly 150 years of coatings experience to use for customers in the growing EMEA region.
“I’m impressed with Axalta’s dynamics and, of course, with its business success,” Schönberg said. “Now, as a member of the Axalta team, I look forward to being part of the company’s success in the future.”
He added that the combination of Axalta’s innovation, market penetration and customer focus provide a good foundation for growth in the EMEA region.
Schönberg holds a Masters of Business Administration, Corporate Finance and Tax from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
