Zero-VOC Intumescent Finish Launches

A new zero-VOC intumescent product for wood structures is now available.

PyroTech has created the two-component, thin-film intumescent coating that can be used on existing and new wood structures.

PyroCide Clear is made to produce a clear to light amber, hard, high-gloss finish that will not bubble, crack or haze, the company says.

The product provides resistance from humidity and water spotting as well as UV rays, according to product literature.

PyroCide Clear can be applied with a brush or spray and does not require a topcoat. However, a topcoat should be used in areas that could be handled or touched frequently, or for those areas that are subject to high humidity, the company says.

PyroCide Clear offers a Class A flame and smoke rating. It has a flame-spread index of 5 and a smoke density index of 15, according to the manufacturer.
