Comment Time Closing on Paint Standard
WASHINGTON, D.C.—This is the last week to submit comments on Green Seal's proposed overhaul of its standards for paints, coatings, stains and sealers.
The third-party product certifier is inviting public comments until May 31 on the proposal, which would both reorganize and enlarge the standard.
Green Seal wants to combine two current standards (GS-11 and GS-47) into one titled, “GS-11, Green Seal Standard for Paints, Coatings, Stains and Sealers.”
Scope Expansion
The organization is also seeking to add new product categories to the standard's scope, including transparent wall coatings, floor coatings, concrete/masonry sealers and fire-resistant coatings.
However, anti-graffiti coatings and products containing nanoparticles will be explicitly excluded from the scope and therefore not certifiable under this standard, according to Green Seal.

Green Seal develops standards for, and certifies a variety of, building products based on environmental and performance criteria.
The organization's standards aim to "reduce the environmental impacts associated with the manufacture, use and disposal of products, to the extent technically and economically feasible."
