Paint Makers Roll Out New Wonders

FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2015

MINNEAPOLIS—Do your dazzling design dreams have you abandoning hand-cramping painting for glue-and-go wallcoverings?

Not so fast, say Valspar Corp. and UK home-improvement retailer Homebase.

Both companies have rolled out products designed to roll out the fabulous.

From Valspar comes the Tartan Roller and Paint Collection, which brings the popular Highlands print home in one easy roll.

The system boasts a battery-powered Tartan-printed roller and three chambers for the paint colors, which are formulated with "groundbreaking pigments and resins that do not intermix once paint is applied."

Even better, "unique drying agents" offer instantaneous drying on contact, the company says.

Meanwhile, Homebase has weighed in with its own too-good-to-be-true offering: Rainbow paint, which promises to magically lay down a rainbow with an ordinary-looking roller.

Roll-on rainbows are a dream idea, says the UK's Homebase.

Both products were announced April 1.

Curiously, spokespersons from both companies were unable to comment, as their tongues were stuck firmly in their cheeks.
