Underlayment Protects in 1 Layer

TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS—Firestone Building Products Company has introduced what it calls "the only self-adhered, waterproof, UL Class A underlayment" on the market.

CLAD-GARD SA-FR, with the company's patented CoreGard Technology, "has been strategically engineered to not only protect metal roofing systems from fire, but streamline the installation process," said product manager Joe Marzahl.

"It is the only underlayment you will need, on a combustible deck under a metal roof, to achieve a UL Class A standard," the company reports.

UL Class A metal roofs protect rooftops, buildings and occupants from the spread of fire, which is critical to safeguarding surrounding structures.

Clad-Gard SA-FR can provide UL Class A fire protection with one layer., the manufacturer says.

"By offering the fire protection of UL Class A roofing materials in an underlayment, CoreGard Technology reduces installation time, labor costs and the overall number of materials for commercial roofing projects," Firestone Building Products reports.

Saving Layers

To achieve the same fire standard without CLAD-GARD SA-FR, "contractors would need to install a separate product, entirely, for their metal roofing systems," the manufacturer says.

A skid-resistant top film offers additional safety for installers, and the product is ASTM 1970 compliant, according to the company.

Primer is not required in temperatures of 40 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer, and the material self-seals around nails or metal roofing fasteners, the manufacturer reports.
