Bidding Open for 1MG VA Water Tank

The City of Chesapeake is searching for contractors to rehabilitate the Bainbridge Boulevard Elevated Water Storage Tank, located in Chesapeake, VA.

The project involves cleaning, recoating and repairing the existing 1-million-gallon welded steel water storage tank.

Bids are due April 8.

Scope of Work

Interior wet surfaces of the steel storage tank will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and coated with a three-coat zinc-epoxy system.

Both the exterior and dry interior surfaces will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6) utilizing a lead stabilizing additive prior to coating. The dry interior will receive a two-coat epoxy system, while the exterior will be coated with a three-coat zinc-polyurethane-fluoropolymer system.

The contractor will also reapply the tanks lettering, “Chesapeake Virginia,” using two coats of fluoropolymer paint.

The concrete base of the tank will be sweep-blasted with a fine abrasive and painted with two coats of polyamidoamine epoxy. The associated steel tower will be coated with the corresponding interior and exterior tank finishes.

Existing coatings contain lead; containment and SSPC-QP 2 contractor certification are required.

The project also includes replacement of the existing modular automatic cathodic protection unit.
