Copper Tops Trendy Hue Report
Step aside, ho-hum blues and greens of yore. Color experts at AkzoNobel say the go-to hue for 2015 is an elegant and warm copper.
“Smooth Copper” is the star of the Amsterdam-based coatings company’s proprietary color and trend guide, E10.
The guide highlights four key trends, eight palettes, and 72 color effects and textures.
From nature to luxury, the overarching theme of the report is “Extraordinary,” explains Stephie Sijssens, Performance Coatings Color Design Manager.
'Sophisticated Direction'
“We look for beauty in what we have, uniqueness in what’s already there, and find the extra in the ordinary,” she said.
“Color and material trends are moving into a sophisticated direction—elegant and playful at the same time, with attention for details.”
Sijssens and her team search the world for tones that "make people talk."
They found that designers are seeking different textures and tactile aspects to create subtle contrasts. Designers are also finding inspiration in the vivid accents of fashion and sport accessories, she added.
4 Trends
Part of the trend story this year revolves around bright, almost neon, accents with a matte finish, according to AkzoNobel.

However, metallic effects are also back, while the more classic silver range is now complemented by different shades of brown and golds, the company says.
The color experts say the following four key trends are set to surge in lifestyle markets, consumer electronics and automotive sectors.
