Tool, App Turns Phone into Gage

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2015

DeFelsko Corp. has introduced a tool that works with a free mobile app to turn cellphones and tablets into virtual PosiTector gages.

The PosiTector SmartLink and mobile app wirelessly connects probes to an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with or without an Internet connection.

The product accepts all PosiTector 6000, RTR-H, SPG and DPM probes to convert the device into a thickness gage, replica tape reader, depth micrometer surface profile gage or dew point meter.

Tracking Data

The product allows the user to access features on a smart device, including touch screen, microphone, camera, email, WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular and dictation tools, according to the company.

With an Internet connection, measurement data can be shared, backed up or synchronized via email, apps and the cloud. Live synchronization is possible with a PosiSoft.net account.

An auto-pairing Bluetooth Low Energy connection works from up to 30 feet away, according to the company.

The app is currently available on the Apple iTunes store; an Android app will be available later in the year.
