Material Offers Non-Skid Alternative

MONDAY, JANUARY 5, 2015

A new aluminum ceramic non-skid peel-and-stick material can replace traditional epoxy non-skid coatings in indoor and outdoor applications, according to manufacturer Silva Non Skid Solutions.

Silvagrip is fabricated with metals that hold a "matrix of sharp ceramic abrasives, with hardness just under diamonds," according to the company.

The patent-pending product is getting a Milspec approval from the U.S. Navy, the company says.

Strong and Bendable

The non-skid material is an aluminum/ceramic blend of molten metal and ceramic, applied to a backing with adhesive and a protective plastic liner.

According to the company, it can be shaped or bent, but also provides a strong and hard non-skid wear surface.

The product has a certified lifecycle of more than 10 years; is corrosion-, water-, and UV-proof; resists oil and chemicals; and can withstand deck temperatures of up to 400°F, the company says.

Silvagrip uses "peel and stick" application on smooth, dry, and clean surfaces and can be painted. It can be cleaned by scrubbing or pressure washing, according to the company.
