Dow Develops Novel Polymer for EIFS
A dry mix with the performance of wet-formulated products is the boast of Dow Construction Chemicals' new redispersible polymer powder for formulations of EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish Systems) and stucco.
DLP-500 is the first product to be commercialized from what is expected to be “a robust platform of high-performance, 100 percent acrylic redispersible powders,” according to the company.
A spokesman said that the product has been approved only for stucco and EIFS applications; however, Dow expects to add more end-use applications in the coming months.
Features of End Use
The powder enables a dry mix with exceptional early rain resistance and dirt pick-up resistance, while maintaining the workability and feel of traditional wet-formulated products, Dow reports.
Bill Wagner, commercial director for DCC in North America, said, “DLP-500 provides all the performance benefits of a traditional wet acrylic, along with the sustainability benefits and savings from lower shipping and packaging costs.”
The product permits packaging in bags instead of pails or buckets, realizing cost savings in excess of 60 percent, Dow notes.
Produced in the United States, DLP-500 is being debuted in North America, with global launches expected in other regions throughout 2015.
