Hempel Expands Antifouling Lines

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2014

Hempel has added two antifouling products to its Globic and Dynamic product ranges for dry-dockings and new buildings.

The two products, Globic 8000 and Dynamic 8000, comprise 58 percent volume solids and can be specified for up to 90 months dry docking interval, according to Andreas Glud, Hempel's Group Product Manager.

Glud said the products also deliver fuel savings of up to 3 percent.

The Products

Globic 8000 is a hydrolysing self-polishing antifouling product.

It incorporates the company's nano acrylate technology, which delivers "a fine polishing control mechanism to bring the integral biocides to the surface at a stable rate ensuring a clean hull," according to the company.

The product can be used on all vessels at all speeds, but is particularly effective for slow-steaming operations. Applications include newbuilding and maintenance of underwater hull and boottop.

Dynamic 8000 uses silylated acrylate technology for antifouling at higher speeds. It offers low friction, self-smoothening, and very fine control of polishing.

According to the company, the product's patented microfibers give it mechanical strength to avoid cracking and peeling.
