New Coating Touts Icing Prevention
A new nanocomposite coating that imparts anti-icing properties to the underlying substrate is the latest offering from NEI Corporation.
Nanomyte SuperAi is a single-component, transparent coating that provides a hard, dense and smooth finish, the company says.
Coated surfaces reduce ice adhesion, preventing ice buildup, according to the company. The coating also provides durability and corrosion protection, NEI says.
Potential applications include areas where ice removal is challenging, such as wind turbine blades, power transmission lines and cables, windshields and other glass surfaces.
The coating can be applied by dip, spray or brush and can be cured at room temperature by exposing the coating to ambient conditions for six to eight hours. Accelerated curing is also possible in one hour or less at temperatures ranging from 100 to 150°C (212-302°F).
