'Extreme Performance' for Walls, Seats
Designtex has rolled out greener versions and new offerings in its veteran "extreme performance" textile collections, Hardwear and Sportswear.
The Hardwear collection now includes a wallcovering called Armour; Sportswear, the company's textiles developed for indoor and outdoor stadium seating, has four new options.
The new textiles do not contain phthalates, endocrine-disrupting chemicals often found in softening agents used in the manufacturing of PVC, according to Designtex. The new yarns are made with an FDA-approved softening agent that allows the products to comply with the phthalates restrictions of California's Prop 65.
According to Designtex, the new yarns also contain finer threads and pearlized yarns, allowing for more variety in weave construction, color and sheen.
Features and Details
Armour, available in 13 neutral colors, is woven as a light-and-dark heathered surface that appears solid from a distance. The wallcovering carries a 10-year warranty.
Bit (left) and Bolt are two of four new upholsteries in the Sportswear collection. The fabrics are suitable for outdoor stadium use and other demanding environments, the manufacturer says.
Sportswear, a line that has been used in dozens of stadiums across the U.S., features four new upholsteries: Bit, Bolt, Rivet and Rivet Pearl. The coverings are bleach-cleanable and suitable for outdoor environments, the company says.
The textiles are recommended for the hospitality, health-care and transportation markets.
Designtex president Susan Lyons says the New York-based manufacturer is "dedicated to developing products that respond equally to the demands of aesthetics and of utility."
