Flexible Topcoat Enhances Resistance
A new abrasion-resistant overcoating from 3M boasts improved flexibility and is designed to protect the primary corrosion coating on pipelines.
Scotchkote Abrasion Resistant Overcoat 6352HF is a mechanically strong, thermosetting topcoat for fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) pipeline corrosion protection coatings.
According to the company, the coating was designed to protect pipelines from damage during pipeline direction drilling applications, bores, river crossing and installation on rough terrain.
Resistance & Flexibility
The coating is applied to the base coat to form a layer that is resistant to gouge, impact, abrasion and penetration, according to 3M. When applied at greater thicknesses, the product enhances the hot, wet performance of the first layer of corrosion coating.
When properly applied, the coating performs well on pipelines operating between -100°F (-73°C) and 230°F (110°C), 3M says
Compared to Scotchkote 6352, the new product has increased flexibility while retaining impact strength and gouge resistance, according to the company.
