Waterproofing Keeps Application Cool

A new cold-applied waterproof roof coating offers the same performance as hot-applied systems without harmful emissions, says manufacturer Garland Canada.

Energizer BK is designed to improve the long-term performance of coal tar and asphalt roofing systems, according to the Toronto-based company. The product can be used as a flood coat over new and existing asphalt and coal-tar roof systems or as a premium restoration material.

Asphalt/Coal Tar Blend

Energizer BK is formulated with an asphalt coal-tar blend to provide water resistance in addition to strength and flexibility.

Garland says the product provides “natural resistance to moisture, chemicals, UV and aging," which improves longterm performance and reduces life-cycle costs.

“Energizer BK is a versatile waterproof coating that adheres well to a variety of roofing systems,” company president Charbel Boulos, P.Eng., said in a product announcement.

Application Features

Energizer BK provides the same performance as conventional hot-applied coal tar but eliminates many of the harmful emissions, the company says.

The product is also fiber reinforced to provide sag resistance, increased tensile strength, crack resistance, and improved weathering resistance.
