PPG Adds Steel Intumescent Coatings
PPG Protective & Marine Coatings has announced new products in the Steelguard range of intumescent fire protection coatings for steel structures.
Steelguard 701/801 was developed to target 30- and 60-minute fire scenarios with lower film thicknesses on I-section beams and solid columns, PPG says.
Steelguard 702 was designed for application on hollow sections, for fire scenarios up to 90 minutes.
Fire Protection
The coatings range is intended to deliver fire protection for civil buildings and can be used on structures where exposed steel is part of the design, such as shopping centers, airport terminals, sports stadiums and schools, according to PPG.
The company says that fast-drying primers and a specially designed topcoat enable three coats to be applied in one day.
The coatings can be left externally exposed for 12 months without top coating, as long as they are not subjected to ponding, running water or immersion, according to PPG.
