Cleric is on a Blessed Roll
The leader of the Romanian Orthodox Church has devised an unusual technique for blessing hard-to-reach areas—a paint roller.
Patriarch Daniel has found himself at the center of media reports around the world due to his paint-roller-wielding sanctifications.
In photos released by the church, the leader is shown blessing the new church-owned Trinitas Radio and Television station facilities in Romania with a roller dipped in holy oil. One blogger altered the photo to appear as though the holy leader is endorsing a brand of paint.
A church spokesperson tells news outlets that Patriarch Daniel has used the “sanctification rod” to anoint other spaces before.
The invention is one of the “tools of his trade,” as it helps him to anoint higher walls and ceilings that prove difficult to reach, the spokesperson added.
