FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2014

A new thin-film coating for foam insulation provides a 15-minute thermal barrier for occupied spaces, the manufacturer reports.

Flame Control 60-60A Thermal Barrier, by Flame Control Coatings, is a water-based, intumescent coating for spray polyurethane foam insulation.

The coating is approved for use in occupied spaces where the SPF insulation must be separated from the interior by a 15-minute thermal barrier.

The low-VOC, latex coating can be applied over exposed SPF insulation in roofing assemblies, drop ceilings, garages, warehouses, basements and other inhabited spaces, according to the company.

Flame Control 60-60A can be applied using a brush, roll or sprayer, and dries to a flat finish.
