Building Technology Conference Begins

TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2014

The nation's building brain trust arrives in Cincinnati today to kick off D+D 2014, the first conference of its kind for the latest advances in building technology.

Hosted by Durability + Design Magazine, the inaugural three-day conference and exhibition, at the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel, includes more than 30 educational and technical sessions, a keynote address, a student architectural competition, and other special events.

Themed “Advances in Protective and Aesthetic Technologies for Buildings,” the conference includes expert presentations on topics ranging from paint formulation and concrete polishing to air barriers and roofing.

This year’s list of presenters includes the director of specifications at HOK, the building envelopes group leader at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the director of historic preservation at Swanke Hayden Connell Architects.

Registration opens Tuesday (May 20) morning, and the exhibit hall opens Tuesday evening.

Technical Program: Materials and Best Practices

The show program is designed to help architects, specifiers, facility managers, contractors, manufacturers and researchers learn from other professionals.

The program offers two tracks: Track 1, Materials Technology and Performance; and Track 2, Good Technical Practice, with sessions beginning Wednesday (May 21).

Session attendees may earn Learning Units to maintain American Institute of Architects certification, including HSW credits.

Keynote to Kick Off

The keynote address will be delivered at 9 a.m. Wednesday by building-science expert Dr. Joseph Lstiburek

Lstiburek has lectured, written and testified widely on building construction and building failures. His areas of expertise include air barriers and construction technology.

Welcome and Contest

A welcome reception is scheduled for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the exhibit hall, which will be swarming with manufacturers touting the latest coating and building-envelope products.
