Event Lights Up the Future of Curing

THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2014

UV and EB curing—technologies that are igniting advances in materials and coating science—will be focus of RadTech 2014, the world's largest UV and EB event, coming in May.

The three-day Global Conference & Expo for UV and EB Curing Technology will take place May 12-14 in Chicago, IL. The event is dedicated to fostering educational, technical, and scientific advancement in the manufacture and use of ultraviolet (UV) and electron beam (EB) curable products.

The Johnson County School District #1, in Buffalo, WY, uses a UV-curable finish on its gymnasium floors that drastically speeds up the annual maintenance project. The district was honored last year at RadTech.

Nearly 100 presentations will spotlight advanced materials, super-fast processing and clean production in adhesives; aerospace and defense; automotive OEM, repair and refinish; composite applications, decorative applications, industrial finishing, the wood industry, and other markets.

The event is hosted by RadTech International North America, which has more than 600 members worldwide.

Nearly 70 exhibitors will be at the expo, representing a wide range of vendors to the coatings, materials, energy and chemical industries. The exhibit hall will be open for several hours all three days of the show. The current exhibitor list may be viewed here

Short Course, Technical Sessions

Organizers are also planning several short courses for May 11, before the conference begins. That lineup includes an undergraduate-level course for UV/EB professionals who are employed in the polymer or coatings industry but who have not had a college-level course in polymer chemistry or photopolymerization.

ReflecTech Mirror Film

SkyFuel Inc.'s ReflecTech Mirror Film, honored last year with an Emerging Technology Award, uses a UV-curable hardcoat to improve the abrasion resistance of reflective films used in concentrated solar energy systems.

The course is led by Dr. Mike Idacavage, Esstech Inc.; Dr. Susan Bailey, Brewer Science; and Dr. Molly Hladik, Brewer Science.

Following is a selected list of technical sessions, organized by day and track, of interest to those in coatings and relevant industries.
