Insulation Seals Without Added Barrier

FireStop2, new from Gaco Western, is reportedly the first single-application, open-cell, spray-foam insulation that requires no additional ignition barrier, according to the manufacturer.

Unlike spray-foam insulations that require an ignition barrier coating as a second step, GacoFireStop2's one-step application yields a sealed product that can be left exposed in an attic or crawl space and meet code requirements, the company says.

The open-cell foam reportedly adheres to most building materials and provides a continuous barrier against air infiltration for the life of the building.

The product yields up to 15,000 board feet and features improved sprayability and rise, excellent adhesion, and easier trimming when compared to the original GacoFireStop, launched in 2011.

GacoFireStop and the updated version meet the requirements of International Code Council Evaluation Services AC377 Appendix X for use in attic and crawl spaces without an additional ignition barrier, the company says.

Additional Features

The water-blown spray-applied system cures to a distinctive orange-colored semi-rigid low-density foam, according to the product literature.
