THURSDAY, JANUARY 23, 2014

Corrpro Companies and PPG Industries have both just inked major corrosion-protection and coatings contracts with two branches of the Department of Defense.

Corrpro, a provider of cathodic protection systems and engineering services, has just signed its first contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: a three-year deal worth $10 million.

PPG's protective and marine coatings (PMC) business, meanwhile, reports that it has been awarded a five-year contract renewal with the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC) to continue providing coatings, solvents and technical services to its global fleet of 110 ships.

A PPG spokeswoman declined to release the value of the contract.

The Corrpro contract covers cathodic protection and corrosion control services at military installations worldwide. The main focus is on fuel storage tanks and transfer pipeline assets.

The contract encompasses all aspects of corrosion engineering, including the assessment, design and installation of cathodic protection systems; corrosion studies; training of base personnel; field consulting during construction; and system-evaluation-through-post-construction-award services.

“We are pleased to partner with the US Army Corps of Engineers through their Corrosion Services Worldwide program," said Corrpro president Greta Senn.

Corrpro is a subsidiary of St. Louis, MO-based Aegion, which provides infrastructure protection and maintenance products and services worldwide. Aegion's other companies include Insituform Technologies LLC, Aegion's Coating Services Group, The Fyfe Group, and Hockway.

PPG

PPG has long been a supplier to the Military Sealift Command, whose fleet comprises more than 20 classes of ships.

The contract with the Military Sealift Command includes, for the first time, PPG's PSX coatings.

This contract is the first to include the company's PSX polysiloxane coatings, which succeeded Ameron International's polysiloxanes after PPG acquired Ameron in 2006. Ameron introduced the first polysiloxanes to the protective and marine market in 1994.

The new contract also includes Amercoat 240 epoxy and Sigmaglide foul-release coatings.

Tim Knavish, vice president of PPG's PMC business, said the company was "proud to provide products and services that deliver value and help protect this country's most critical military assets."
