New Synthetic Shellac Primer Bows

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2013

Rust-Oleum Corp. has introduced a primer and sealer made with synthetic shellac that mirrors the properties of traditional shellac for new construction, remodeling and restoration projects.

Zinsser BIN Advanced is billed as a first-of-its-kind latex product, featuring superior stain blocking, odor sealing, hiding and adhesion, according to the company.

The water-based, low-odor formula can be applied to slick surfaces, including Formica, tile, glossy paints and varnishes.

The white primer is dry to the touch in 25 minutes and can be top-coated after 45, Rust-Oleum says.

The product builds upon the original BIN primer, which was introduced nearly 70 years ago, said Fiona Seal, a brand manager for Rust-Oleum.

"We are confident that BIN Advanced will become another trusted problem-solver to tackle any interior paint or fire restoration project that requires superior stain killing and odor blocking," she said.

The product is available in quart, gallon and five-gallon pails.
