Device Exposes Building Envelope Leaks

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2013

DeFelsko has introduced a portable device that detects air leakage in building envelopes and rigid air-barrier systems in the field.

The PosiTest AIR Leak Tester instrument is recommended for testing penetrations (fasteners, masonry ties) and continuity of joints and seams in rigid air-barrier systems during and after construction.

The highly accurate pressure sensor is designed for use with liquid-applied membranes, metal liners, sprayed polyurethane foam (SPF), exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), as well as other systems, according to DeFelsko, a major manufacturer of inspection instruments and gages.

The Ogdensburg, NY-based company says the PosiTest AIR Leak Tester comes in a kit with everything needed for leakage testing. The instrument can store up to 200 tests results with rate, time duration, limit and user-entered pass/fail conclusions.

Also, the device conforms to ASTM E1186 and comes with a one-year warranty, the manufacturer says.
