New Finish Made for Extreme Weather

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2013

Sherwin-Williams has announced a new fluoropolymer urethane coating for structures that require extreme weather durability.

FluoroKem HS is a high-solids, ambient-cured, fluoropolymer urethane finish coating.

The product is recommended for interior and exterior structures that require corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal and for structures subjected to severe environmental exposures. Applications include stadiums, water tanks, sport complexes, storage tank exteriors and bridges, according to Sherwin-Williams.

Accelerated Weather Testing

According to Sherwin-Williams, results from accelerated weather testing showed that FluoroKem HS maintained nearly 100 percent gloss rentention over 13,000 hours, and testing of color retention in Florida for three years showed "virtually no color change."

The coating offers quick dry time, with a dry-to-handle and minimum recoat time of four hours at 77°F, according to the company.

"FluoroKem HS provides unparalleled color and gloss retention, chemical resistance, and adhesion to primers not seen yet in the water, wastewater and commercial industries," said Narsi Bodapati, VP of Marketing for Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings.

"The long coating service life of FluoroKem HS reduces the frequency of maintenance work and subsequent downtime interruption," said Bodapati.

The coating can be applied in one coat with brush, roll or airless conventional spraying application methods, the company says.
