Jotun Offers Mesh-Free Fire Protection
Jotun has announced a new, mesh-free passive fire protection coating system for steel.
Jotachar JF750 is an epoxy intumescent for jet fire protection for safety critical steel structures, divisions and vessels.
"The formulation of Jotachar JF750 incorporates an advanced fibre matrix system in the material," said Andy Czainski, Jotun's Global PFP Sales Director.
"This technology, combined with a robust and temperature-stable insulating char, eliminates the need for additional mesh reinforcement, reducing complexity and making it significantly faster to apply, hence saving time and cost," Czainski said.
Fire and Blast Testing
According to the company, Jotachar JF750 has been fire tested to all key industy standards and demonstrates structural fire protection for up to three hours. The coating has been tested to "hydrocarbon curve," for protection from hydrocarbon pool fires.
Without additional mesh reinforcement, the coating has demonstrated up to two hours of jet fire performance, Jotun says. JF750 has also been tested to a 4 bar blast overpressure without additional reinforcing mesh.
All fire and blast resistance testing was witnessed by Lloyds Register and endorsed by third-party fire assessments completed by UK-based Exova Warrington Fire, the company says.
After exposure, the coating still offers corrosion resistance, material durability and mechanical performance, according to Jotun.
Because JF750 is mesh-free, owners can avoid risks associated with using mesh-reinforced systems, such as poor mesh-to-mesh adhesion where overlaps are required, said John Warner, Jotun's Category Manager for intumescent coatings.
