Sika Names New Technology Manager

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2013

Chemist Thomas Hasler has been named the Chief Technology Officer and a Member of Group Management at Sika AG.

In the new role, Hasler is tasked with increasing the market orientation of the global structural materials conglomerate’s R&D activities and intensifying its customer focus, Sika announced Tuesday (Sept. 10).

The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2014.

24 Years with Sika

Hasler joined Sika in 1989 as a chemist working in sealing and bonding. In 1995, he moved to the Automotive business segment, where he held various management positions in Europe and North America.

For the past three years, Hasler headed Sika's Global Automotive unit. In this position, he implemented an efficient worldwide organizational structure for Sika’s automotive business, while growing the business significantly, the company noted.

The Swiss citizen holds degrees in chemical engineering and business engineering, as well as an executive MBA from the University of St. Gallen.

Mäder Steps Down

Hasler succeeds Urs Mäder, who has decided to step down from the role after nine years. Mäder will stay on with the company, assuming responsibility for corporate research and development projects, Sika said.

During his tenure as Chief Technology Officer, Mäder oversaw the establishment of more efficient technology management, including the globalization of R&D activities, the introduction of a professional intellectual property management system, and the alignment of the R&D organization with Sika’s strategic target markets.
