Free Webinar Covers Polyurea Standard
Polyureas, polyurethanes and the latest industry standard for field application of those coatings will be the focus of a free upcoming webinar by SSPC and JPCL.
"Polyurethane, Polyurea and Hybrid Lining Technology," to be held from 11 a.m. to noon ET Sept. 18, will provide an overview of SSPC-PA 14, Field Application of Plural Component Polyurea and Polyurethane Thick Film Coatings to Concrete and Steel, which was released in 2012.
The standard is intended for use by specifiers and facility owners in a manner similar to SSPC-PA 1. SSPC-PA 14 supplements application instructions provided by coating manufacturers to ensure that recommended best practices are followed when applying polyurethane and polyurea plural-component coatings.
About the Presenter
The webinar will be presented by Dudley Primeaux, the director of education and development with VersaFlex Inc. in Kansas City, KS. A JPCL 2012 "Top Thinker," Primeaux is the named inventor of 28 U.S. patents and eight European patents on polyurethane and polyurea foam applications, as well as polyurea spray elastomer systems and applications.
Presenter Dudley Primeaux is the named inventor of dozens of patents on polyurethane and polyurea foam applications.
Primeaux is active in SSPC and NACE and holds SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist and Concrete Coatings Inspector certifications. Additionally, he serves as chairman of the SSPC C.1.9 Polyurea Committee.
An accomplished author, Primeaux has written more than 50 technical publications relating to the polyurea elastomeric coating and lining technology, performance testing and inspection and several chapters in SSPC book publications.
The webinar will be sponsored by DeFelsko and VersaFlex.
Registration, CEU Credits
This webinar is part of the JPCL/SSPC Webinar Education Series, which provides continuing education for SSPC recertifications and technology updates on important topics.
SSPC is an accredited training provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE), and Professional Engineers in Florida may submit SSPC Webinar Continuing Education Units to the board. To do so, applicants must download the FBPE CEU form and pass the Webinar Exam, which costs $25.

"Practical Application of Polysiloxane Technology," presented Aug. 14, discussed the development of polysiloxane technologies and their potential in marine and protective coatings.
"Sewer Infrastructure Rehabilitation," presented July 24, covered the steps required to properly rehabilitate sewer structures and reviewed the generic types of anticorrosion coatings and linings available, as well as an assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of each.
"New Methods for Testing and Extraction of Soluble Salts," offered June 19, assisted participants in selecting specific procedures for retrieving soluble salts from a surface and methods to analyze the concentration of the salts.
"Advances in Plural-Component Equipment Technology," presented May 1, covered advances in plural-component equipment technology and provided contractors with information on how to select the proper equipment for their protective coatings projects.
"Achieving Passive Fire Protection Offshore," presented April 17, outlined the fire test standards, environmental exposures and physical property testing that must be met when using passive fireproofing coating systems. The presentation covered the benefits and applications of industrial epoxy intumescent fireproofing materials and reviewed keys to success when installing these systems.
"Safety in Abrasive Blasting," presented March 27, details the potential respiratory hazards that can occur from abrasive blasting and how to prevent them. Presenter William J. Mills III, Ph.D., M.Sc., CIH, C. Chem., reviews personal protective equipment, standards and exposures, respirator selection, and more.
“Steps to a More Effective Waterjetting Operation,” presented March 20, was presented by Rick Dupuy, founder and CEO of UHP Projects Inc. and a longtime member of the SSPC technical committee that developed the written and visual standards now used for UHP surface preparation. The webinar covers the steps needed for effectively preparing a steel substrate by waterjetting.
