Corrosion prevention company Cortec Corporation has recently added a new 40% silane penetrating water repellant to its line of concrete surface treatments.
MCI-2019 X is similar to its predecessor, MCI-2019, except that it does not include Migrating Corrosion Inhibitors, allowing contractors to adapt to specific project specifications and budgets.
According to the emailed press release, MCI-2019 X provides water repellency by chemically reacting with the alkaline environment of concrete and creating a hydrophobic layer to reduce the ingress of water and other corrosives.

Cortec explains that this water repellency offers a standalone benefit, but is better paired with a penetrating surface applied corrosion inhibitor (SACI).
Additionally, it is a water repellent that can be applied over residue from previously worn-off treatments. The company says this is helpful for maintenance applications where a water repellent is reapplied every five to 10 years.

MCI-2019 X is also reportedly an option for concrete structures where slippage or water puddling is a concern. Silane molecules, because of their small size, penetrate deeper than other types of water repellents while not darkening or changing the appearance of concrete.
