A new coating helps protect bridges, streets and other industrial and commercial exteriors from graffiti while incorporating corrosion inhibitor technology, Cortec announced.

Cortec Corporation's MCI Wall Defense is a clear, silicone elastomer-based anti-graffiti coating that can be applied to exterior concrete, masonry, or metal surfaces. The product can be used over various coated or uncoated surfaces, the company said.

With Wall Defense, graffiti can be immediately removed with cold water-pressure cleaning, the manufacturer says. The coating is permanent, so it is not necessary to re-apply after graffiti removal, according to Cortec.

Cortec's new anti-graffiti Wall Defense protects uncoated and coated concrete, masonry and metal. The coating need not be re-applied after graffiti removal.

Patented Technology

The coating uses Cortec's patented Migrating Corrosion Inhibitor (MCI) technology and protects coated surfaces within 24 hours after application.

Wall Defense is designed to deliver excellent exterior durability, gloss retention, and hydrophobicity. It is also VOC compliant and has high UV resistance, according to Cortec.

Wall Defense can be applied by spray, brush or roller at temperatures over 40°F and with wind less than 5 mph. A DFT of 12–15 mils is recommended on new or uncoated cement, and the coating dries to touch in two hours, the company said.

The coating is suitable for use by Departments of Tranportation, port authorities, railcars, parking decks, school and universities, commercial properties and more.
