Industry expert and JPCL Top Thinker Steven Reinstadtler has been named president of the Polyurea Development Association, the trade association announced Wednesday (April 17).

Reinstadtler, industrial marketing manager of the Coatings for Construction division of Bayer MaterialScience LLC, was elected president of the Polyurea Development Association. He officially started his one-year term during PDA's annual conference, which was held April 15–17 in Las Vegas.

Reinstadtler has been a member of PDA for 12 years, including two years as a member of the board of directors.

Steven Reinstadtler says he will focus on growth, education and "downstream members" in leading the Polyurea Development Association.

Goals for Growth

"As PDA President, I intend to implement strategic growth and education plans developed by the Board of Directors at our Strategic Planning Workshop last June," Reinstadtler said in a press release announcing his appointment.

"I also intend to be more inclusive of downstream members, such as applicators, contractors and facility owners," he said.

Reinstadtler is interested in growing and broadening the association, and his experience at Bayer with polyaspartic and polyurethane elastomer chemistry will be helpful, PDA said.

PDA is dedicated to the pure polyurea industry but also welcomes adjacent thick-film elastomers, the association said.

PDA's mission is to promote the advancement of high-performance elastomeric technologies.

According to Reinstadtler, this aligns with PDA's mission statement: "To promote strong market growth and advancement of high-performance elastomeric technologies for the betterment of protective coatings, caulks, adhesives and sealants through the development of educational and marketing programs, technical standards, safety and environmental guidelines, and proper use recommendations."

20+ Years of Experience

Reinstadtler started his career with Bayer in 1989 after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in chemistry. His current position at Bayer focuses on understanding "the unmet needs of high-performance coatings" in the construction, infrastructure, architectural and built environments. Reinstadtler has a technical and marketing background in both polyurea and polyurethane hybrid thick-film coatings.

Reinstadtler is active in SSPC, the American Coatings Association (ACA), and the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI), as well as PDA. He is also a contributor to Durability + Design Magazine, published by JPCL publisher Technology Publishing Co.

In 2012, he was named to JPCL's Top Thinkers: The Clive Hare Honors, which recognized the industry's top 24 distinguished thought leaders who have advanced the technology of protective and marine coatings in the past decade.
