The 9/11 Tribute Center in New York City is sporting a fresh coat of paint, courtesy of volunteers and donations from Behr Process Corp.’s BEHRCares program.

Just steps away from the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, the center offers visitors a place to connect with people from the Sept. 11, 2001, community.

The Santa Ana, CA-based paint and coatings maker supplied 160 gallons of paint and painting supplies to the non-profit organization for a community paint project held on Jan. 16, 2013.

Local BehrPro employees rolled up their sleeves to help repaint the 9/11 Tribute Center in New York City.

'A Humbling Day'

Additionally, more than 20 local BehrPro employees volunteered to help repaint the organization’s museum galleries. The volunteers were given a tour of the center before picking up their rollers and getting to work.

Many of those involved were quoted on the center's website.

"It was a humbling day here," said William Farrell, operations manager, Behr Paint. "Coming here was pretty cool, but I didn't know what I was in for. A unique experience."

Another volunteer, Hilda Lopez, a Behr Paint sales representative, said, "Personally, it connected...it made it real. From California, I just read about it, saw photos and pictures afterwards."

The 9/11 Tribute Center offers visitors a place to connect with those touched by the attacks of 2001.

“Their efforts have refreshed the environment and brightened our staff and local volunteers,” said Jennifer Adams, CEO of the 9/11 Tribute Center.

Visitor Experience

Through walking tours, exhibits and programs, the 9/11 Tribute Center offers "Person to Person History," linking visitors with the historic events and those who experienced them.

The center was created by the September 11th Families' Association to share the personal stories of victims, survivors, rescue and recovery workers, volunteers, and residents of Lower Manhattan.

The BEHRCares program aims to create a positive difference in local communities through fundraising, donations and community service, according to the company’s professional products and services division, BehrPro.
