Apalachicola River Bridge Project Awarded

The Florida Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $671,000 to Monoko, LLC of Tarpon Springs, Florida, for coating of structural steel on the Apalachicola River Bridge in Calhoun County, Florida.

Monoko, LLC was the lowest of ten apparent bidders. Additional bids included:

  • Seminole Equipment, Inc. of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $757,498.42;
  • Gemstone, LLC of Key West, Florida, in the amount of $946,801.92;
  • Gulf Coast Contracting, LLC of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $992,000;
  • M&J Construction Company of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $1,056,607.21;
  • Elite Industrial Painting of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $1,057,346.27;
  • Cekra, Inc., of Wilmington, North Carolina, in the amount of $1,068,992.32;
  • Southern Road & Bridge, LLC, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $1,083,475.26;
  • Oympus Painting Contractors, Inc., of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in the amount of $1,092,239.90; and
  • Abhe & Svoboda, Inc. of Jordan, Minnesota, in the amount of $241,917,482.

The budget was estimated at $975,289.

The Florida Department of Transportation has awarded a contract in the amount of $671,000 to Monoko, LLC of Tarpon Springs, Florida, for coating of structural steel on the Apalachicola River Bridge in Calhoun County, Florida.

The project bid Aug. 12. The contract was awarded Sept. 9.

Scope of Work

Monoko, LLC has been awarded a contract including abrasive blast-cleaning and painting steel bridge members spanning the Apalachicola River. The project includes replacement of high strength rivets and incidental construction. The bridge spans 1.038 miles. The contracted work will include an additional 2.074 miles of roadway rehabilitation. The project includes a total of 180 contract days for execution of this project.

The work will consist of cleaning and painting superstructure steel members. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Bare Metal (SSPC-SP 11), Hand Tool (SSPC-SP 2) and Power Tool (SSPC-SP 3) cleaned to remove all existing coatings. The existing structural steel will be coated with an organic zinc-rich system. This system is subject to change according to project requirements.

Certifications for SSPC-QP 1, QP 2, and QP 3 are required.
