The Maryland State Highway Administration is seeking contractors to replace the bridge deck on US 15 Northbound over MD 77 in Hampstead, Maryland.

The project is estimated at $100,000.

Bids are due Aug. 26.

Scope of Work

Contractors are urged to bid on replacement of the bridge deck on Bridge Number 1010900 on US 15 Northbound over MD 77 and Hunting Creek. The existing structure is a five-span steel girder bridge with a total radial length of 273.5 feet, and a total out-to-out bridge width of 45 feet. Other structure work includes substructure repair and strengthening, bearing replacement, and steel plating and repainting the steel girders.

Maryland Department of Transportation

The Maryland State Highway Administration is seeking contractors to replace the bridge deck on US 15 Northbound over MD 77 in Hampstead, Maryland.

The project also includes approximately 0.4 miles of approach roadway resurfacing, drainage improvements, traffic barrier replacement/installation, erosion and sediment controls, signing, and pavement markings. US 15 northbound will be reduced from two lanes to one lane of traffic during construction and the bridge deck will be built in two stages. To minimize the lane closure period, an incentive/disincentive is included in this project. Construction is slated to begin at the start of Fall or Winter 2021.

The project includes repainting steel girders. The steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to SSPC-SP 10 (Near White) and recoated with MDSHA System C, which consists of an organic zinc-rich primer, an epoxy polyamide intermediate, and an aliphatic urethane finish. MDSHA Paint System B including an inorganic zinc primer, epoxy polyamide intermediate, and aliphatic urethane finish coat will be used if the contractor elects to remove the steel beams from the bridge.

Non-galvanized carbon steel surfaces will require Solvent Cleaning (SSPC-SP 1) and abrasive blast-cleaning to Near White (SSPC-SP 10) followed by an epoxy powder coating system, or polyester powder coating system.

The existing coatings contain lead; Class 1A containment according to SSPC-Guide 6 is required. SSPC-QP 1 and QP 2 certifications are also required. MDSHA personnel will perform the coatings inspection services.
