The project involves cleaning and painting existing steel structures. Primary connections will require Commercial Grade Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 15) using vacuum shrouded power tools equipped with HEPA filtration. An option to vacuum blast-clean to Commercial Blast standards (SSPC-SP 6) may be substituted.

Secondary connections will be Power Tool-cleaned according to the SSPC-SP 3 standard. An option for vacuum blast-cleaning according to Commercial standards (SSPC-SP 6), or Commercial Grade Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP 15) may be substituted.

Structures will receive either the standard inorganic zinc-rich waterborne acrylic paint system or an organic zinc-rich primer, epoxy intermediate, and urethane topcoat system. The owner-approved coating manufacturers include Carboline and Sherwin-Williams.

The project includes hydro-scarifying of the existing bridge deck and laying new high-performance concrete followed by 244 square yards of latex concrete overlay for new bridge deck members. The system will be constructed of a 2 ¼ inch-thick overlay on the east fixed pans (Span 1 and 2).
