Earlier this month, European Coatings Show Conference organizer Vincentz Network and NürnbergMesse announced that the event would be postponed from March of next year to September 2021, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and associated travel restrictions.

The decision arrived after a close consultation with exhibitors and industry representatives. The ECS is now slated to take place Sept. 14-16, 2021, in Nuremberg, Germany, with the partly overlapping European Coatings Conference scheduled for Sept. 13 and 14.

Earlier this month, European Coatings Show Conference organizer Vincentz Network and NürnbergMesse announced that the event would be postponed from March of next year to September 2021, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and associated travel restrictions.

"Even if the specially developed hygiene plan had allowed us to hold the ECS safely at the exhibition venue in spring, we need to look at every exhibition individually,” explained Alexander Mattausch, Director Exhibitions, NürnbergMesse.

"The ECS is a global industry gathering. For the previous show in 2019, exhibitors and trade visitors travelled to Nuremberg from more than 120 countries to develop and expand their international business relationships. These relationships are vital for the coatings sector, which is characterized by global supply chains and large, globally networked companies. Unfortunately, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the likelihood that the associated travel restrictions will continue mean we cannot meet this objective for the ECS to the extent we would prefer in March.”

In a press release issued by European Coatings, Amanda Beyer, Director Event Management Vincentz Network added, “We did not take this decision lightly. Until recently, everything was pointing to the possibility of successfully holding the European Coatings Show and the partly overlapping European Coatings Conference in March 2021.

“At the moment, however, the pandemic situation has worsened, and as the organizers we must be true to our responsibilities and also listen to the mood of the paint industry, which had strongly advocated a postponement. The leading exhibition of the coatings industry, in particular, draws its vitality from meetings between people throughout the world. That’s why we are pleased to have found an ideal alternative for our exhibitors and visitors so quickly with this autumn date, and we are looking forward to welcoming them to Nuremberg next September!”

In addition to the postponement of the event, the deadline to submit abstracts for the show has also been extended to March 1, 2021.

Information about presentations includes:

  • delegates expect technical/scientific presentations, rather than sales or commercial presentations;
  • the use of trade names must be avoided wherever possible;
  • papers should contain material that is new in the public domain and has not been previously published or presented elsewhere;
  • all submissions will be treated in strict confidence and will only be made public on publication of the congress program in November 2020;
  • the official language of the congress will be English;
  • the oral presentation time will be approximately 25 minutes, followed by five minutes for discussion;
  • the registration fee for speakers from industry is at the reduced rate, inclusive of all conference material, the coffee and lunch breaks and the welcome get-together; and
  • academic speakers are provided with free registration.
