Global coatings company PPG has released the specifics of its involvement and partnership with the Allegiant Stadium, the $1.97 billion sports venue recently completed in Las Vegas.

PPG noted that most of the stadium’s interior, exterior and structure surface were finished with PPG materials.

“It’s been incredible to see a wide range of PPG coatings come together in the design and construction of Allegiant Stadium,” said Bryan Iams, PPG vice president, corporate and government affairs. “We are extremely proud that our paints, coatings and specialty materials have played a central role in the design and construction of this extraordinary facility.”

About the Project

PPG announced the partnership with the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders in February 2019, which was billed as a multi-year corporate marketing agreement. The terms were not disclosed.

Global coatings company PPG has released the specifics of its involvement and partnership with the Allegiant Stadium, the $1.97 billion sports venue recently completed in Las Vegas.

In conjunction with that marketing agreement, the company announced at the time that protective and decorative coatings from its industrial, refinish, protective and marine and architectural coatings businesses were going to be featured.

For the project, PPG said that it recommended its PPG Amercoat 68 HS and PPG PSX® 700 coatings, which were specified in custom-formulated “Black Gold” and “Silver Fox” colors to meet and match the team’s silver and black uniforms.

The PPG Amercoat 68 HS is a three-component zinc-rich epoxy primer, that aims to provide corrosion protection with the ability to be top-coated quickly. The PPG PSX is a finish coat that aims to deliver adhesion as well as corrosion and chemical resistance, along with gloss and color retention.

PPG also formulated the signature colors in PPG Duranar XL coatings for the venue’s curtainwall.

Based on PPG’s proprietary 70% polyvinylidene fluoride formulation, the four-layer coating system has the goal of delivering abrasion and chemical resistance while retaining its color after decades of exposure to the Las Vegas sun.

Other products used throughout the stadium include Perma-Crete interior/exterior alkali resistant primer and a Speedhide interior eggshell latex enamel. Pitt-Glaze WB1 acrylic epoxy coatings were used in high-traffic areas and Seal-Grip alkyd universal primers were used to protect numerous interior and exterior surfaces.
