RPM International Inc. (Medina, Ohio), parent company of coatings and sealants brands including Carboline and Tremco, has released its first ever Environmental, Social and Governance Report, which aims to highlight the company’s safe, ethical and sustainable business practices, which the company says result in value creation for its key stakeholders.

The report discusses RPM’s approach to addressing a broad range of ESG matters, including its code of conduct, governance practices, talent development and associate benefits, commitment to diversity and inclusion, health and safety culture, philanthropic and community involvement, and sustainable products and processes.

“Our inaugural ESG Report provides concrete examples and data-driven metrics that demonstrate our track record of taking care of our associates, customers and communities, which is how we create stockholder value and leave a legacy we can all celebrate,” said Frank C. Sullivan, RPM chairman and CEO.

In developing the ESG Report, RPM says that it conducted a materiality assessment, informed by the Global Reporting Initiative Standards and other common sustainability frameworks. The company identified material topics by considering the significance of the organization’s economic, environmental and social impacts; and its substantive influence on the assessments and decisions of stakeholders.

The report highlights the company’s core principles, which include:

  • Integrity: Be open and honest. Accurately and openly disclose information in business transactions. Deception and retaliation have no place at RPM and will not be tolerated.
  • Commitment: Follow the law, our policies and procedures. Safeguard our companies’ property, assets and interests, and ensure our focus is on the collective goals of stockholders, associates, customers, consumers and communities.
  • Responsible Entrepreneurship: Search for innovative ways to compete and win in the markets we serve. Compete vigorously, but always do so fairly and in adherence to free enterprise and competition standards, environmental and human rights principles, and with respect for our suppliers, customers, competitors and the communities in which we operate.
  • Moral Courage: Do the right thing, even when it is tough, and regardless of whether someone is watching or if you will receive credit.
