SSPC Scholarship Winners Announced

SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings recently announced the winners of its 2020-21 scholarship program, which awarded $2,500 in in recognition of their academic work.

In order to qualify for the competition, candidates had to be a high school senior with plans to enroll in college full-time, or already attending an accredited institution of higher learning that has a three- or four-year curriculum. Applicants must be a member of SSPC in good standing, or the child or grandchild of an SSPC member.

  • Karan Bansal, North Dakota State University;
  • Serena Bauer, The University of Toledo;
  • Jessica Davison, University of Southern Mississippi;
  • Zoriana Demchuk, North Dakota State University;
  • Robert Giebel, The University of Akron;
  • Mykenzie Johnson, The University of Akron;
  • Tyler Kleinsasser, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology;
  • Demitra Kucherawy, Auburn University;
  • Vishakha Makode, Eastern Michigan University;
  • Ashley Mieczkowski, Virginia Tech;
  • Sadaf Mohammadi, Concordia University;
  • Karina Reynolds, University of Southern Mississippi; 
  • Andrew Schiffer, West Virginia University;
  • Margaret Schiffer, West Virginia University;
  • Arnold Sison, University of Oklahoma;
  • Themelina Tirikos, St. Petersburg College;
  • Nicholas Tirikos, St. Petersburg College;
  • Noah Van Hyning, The University of Akron;
  • Pooya Vosough Grayli, The University of Kansas; and 
  • Cheng Zhang, University of Akron

Those awarded the scholarship also received a one-year membership to SSPC.

The SSPC Scholarship Program is funded in part by the proceeds from the Phil Calvo Memorial Golf Tournament, held each year in conjunction with the annual Coatings+ conference. Next year’s conference is slated to be held Feb. 1-4, 2021, at the Phoenix Convention Center.
