Consumer brand and entertainment company Atari announced earlier this year a year with GSD Group to acquire the rights to build video game-theme Atari Hotels across the United States.

The company says that it’s trying to bring a new concept to the hotel world: “a unique lodging experience combining the iconic brand with a one-of-a-kind video game-themed destination. Atari Hotels level up hotel entertainment with fully immersive experiences for every age and gaming ability, including the latest in VR and AR. Select hotels will also feature state-of-the-art venues and studios to accommodate esports events.”

Consumer brand and entertainment company Atari announced earlier this year a year with GSD Group to acquire the rights to build video game-theme Atari Hotels across the United States.

Development and design are being led by GSD Group and Napoleon Smith III, who are working alongside True North Studio, a Phoenix-based developer, to develop the first Atari-branded hotel in Arizona.

“We are thrilled to partner with GSD Group and True North Studio to build the first-ever Atari branded hotels across the United States,” said Fred Chesnais, CEO of Atari.

“Together we’ll build a space that will be much more than just a place to stay. Atari is an iconic global brand that resonates with people of all ages, countries, cultures and ethnic backgrounds and we cannot wait for our fans and their families to enjoy this new hotel concept.”

The idea was reportedly hatched when Shelly Murphy, founder of GSD Group, approached Atari with the idea last fall.

Construction on the Arizona hotel was originally slated to begin this fall and was expected to be completed in 18-24 months. (No update has been given on whether that timeline has been impacted since the original announcement.)

Additional hotels are planned for Las Vegas; Denver; Chicago; Austin, Texas; Seattle; San Francisco; and San Jose, California.
