The National Roofing Contractors Association recently announced that it has launched a workforce recruitment webpage aimed at helping to address the anticipated workforce shortage as the economy prepares to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The U.S. is facing record unemployment, and the roofing industry must position itself as an essential industry that offers rewarding careers as it also adapts to the influx of Millennial and Generation Z workers,” the NRCA said in its emailed press release.

The webpage contains tools and resources designed to help NRCA members recruit, engage, onboard and train entry-level and transitioning employees to the roofing industry.

The National Roofing Contractors Association recently announced that it has launched a workforce recruitment webpage aimed at helping to address the anticipated workforce shortage as the economy prepares to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The page reportedly showcases opportunities to work, earn, learn and advance in the roofing industry; skilled training and certification opportunities; safety and technological advances; earnings potential and th career opportunities available across all sectors of the industry.

There are also links to other organizations that the NRCA works with including the Association for Career & Technical Education, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Center for Construction Education and Research and SkillsUSA.

More from the NRCA

In addition to canceling events, the NRCA has been vocal during the current global health crisis as it penned a letter to President Donald J. Trump in March to express concerns over what defined “essential businesses” and “essential workers.”

The letter asked the administration to provide clear guidance regarding what an essential industry and essential worker is and noted that the roofing industry should be cited as essential.

“Recent emergency orders and guidance threaten the ability of roofing contractors, manufacturers, distributors and other industry employers to operate and aid in the response to the coronavirus pandemic,” the letter read.

The NRCA went on to note that the roofing industry—including all manufacturers, raw material suppliers, distributors and contractors—is an essential $100 billion sector with an estimated 1.1 million employees altogether.

The organization also compiled a list of resources and a separate webpage for contractors looking for direction during the health crisis.

Resources include:

  • Information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and Occupational Safety and Health Administration;
  • Legal resources, including contract provisions;
  • Insurance resources; federal financial assistance;
  • Employers’ and employees’ rights; and
  • Community notices.

Finally, late last month, the organization announced that it is postponing its annual National Roofing Week. Traditionally held in June, the event is now slated to take place Aug. 23-29.
