Chemical company BASF has announced that, as part of its “Helping Hands” campaign, it is donating more than 100 million protective masks to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

BASF, which is headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany), announced that it is donating 100 million masks to the Federal Republic of Germany and another 1 million to Rhineland-Palatinate.

“An emergency situation such as this can only be managed by all of us together,” said Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of BASF’s Board of Executive Directors. “We are therefore using our purchasing networks and logistics in China to help.”

Chemical company BASF has announced that, as part of its “Helping Hands” campaign, it is donating more than 100 million protective masks to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mask donation is one of several in the “Helping Hands” campaign, which also includes the production of sanitizer.

BASF has created new capacities at sites such as Ludwigshafen, Düsseldorf and Münster-Hiltrup and is able to produce up to 1 million liters of hand sanitizer with the raw materials purchased.

According to the company, around 150,000 liters have already been distributed free of charge to hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region and around other BASF sites.

“BASF is closely connected with its neighbors and society at its sites. This help is a matter of course for us. A special thanks goes to the many employees who show exemplary commitment,” said Brudermüller.

The company also thanked the authorities, which granted the necessary special permits “without red tape.” New raw materials, such as bio-ethanol, were also approved for the production of sanitizing products, the company noted, as BASF did not previously manufacture hand sanitizer.

Great that corporations are helping out. Just wondering though, when a giant like BASF uses their logistics and purchasing networks (power) to procure PPE for the need of their local users how does this affect other less connected users that are also trying to procure the same goods. Is there a queue?
