Global high-performance polymers company Covestro recently announced that is has been providing aid during the COVID-19 pandemic through in-kind and money donations.

Through a partnership-based cooperation, Covestro reports that it has been providing raw materials for the production of products such as medical devices, safety goggles for medical staff and hospital mattresses, which are then supplied to health and care facilities in the vicinity of the plants in numerous countries.

Steilemann adds: “We want to convey this attitude to the outside world and contribute our know-how and the energy of our employees worldwide in the fight against the pandemic.”

Since the outbreak, Covestro states that its employees have “supported rush orders of medical equipment manufacturers by supplying raw materials for the production of diagnostic and respiratory equipment, protective devices and test strips for disease control and other emergency aid.”

Covestro has also made its existing material software—such as 3D printing technology—freely accessible for 3D printing of mask holders and is looking into how to 3D print ventilator components, using its materials and technical expertise.

In addition to the measures taken to provide support to the health and care industry, Covestro says it is also taking precautions to protect the health and safety of its employees and their families worldwide.

Thus far, the company has sent donations to Brazil, Mainland China, Germany, Italy, Spain, Taiwan and throughout the United States, among others. An up-to-date overview of measures and initiatives taken by Covestro for the direct containment of the coronavirus can be found, here.
