Starting today (April 3), SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings and NACE International, The Corrosion Society, will be sending their members ballots via email regarding their possible merger vote.

SSPC and NACE members are reminded that they will see an email from vote@simplyvoting.org, and not from an SSPC or NACE affiliated address.

Exploratory Talks

SSPC, founded in 1950 as the Steel Structures Painting Council, is focused on the use of protective coatings in the industry. SSPC’s name was changed in 1997 to mark progress in coatings technology, as well as the addition of new types of construction materials. SSPC is based in Pittsburgh, and has offices in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and China. Currently, more than 16,000 professionals and 420 companies across the globe carry SSPC certifications.

NACE, founded in 1943 and now with more than 38,000 members in 130 countries, is the world’s largest nonprofit of its kind, according to the organization. NACE is based in Houston, with other offices across the U.S., the U.K., China, Malaysia, Brazil and Saudi Arabia, as well as a training center in Dubai. Membership with NACE includes specified technical training and certification programs, industry standards, reports, conferences and publications focused on corrosion prevention and mitigation.

Starting today (April 3), SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings and NACE International, The Corrosion Society, will be sending its members ballots via email regarding its possible merger vote.

In March 2019, the two organizations announced the beginning of merger talks. By August, the organizations announced the mutual decision to bring McKinley Advisors on board as a guiding entity for the two organizations’ merger discussions, in addition to advising the organizations through considerations related to strategic, financial and cultural barriers, among others.

Since the decision was made to explore the unified efforts and merger possibilities, the two associations have since released 12 updates regarding the process. Starting back in January, the series of released information included topics such as: overview processes, certifications, membership considerations, standards, committee considerations, conferences, education and member questions, among others.

Submitting the Vote

While emails are being sent out today, SSPC and NACE members will have from April 3-17 to cast their votes. If a ballot doesn’t appear in your inbox, members are reminded to please double check thier spam filter and to also make sure their membership is up to date.

If you are a member of both SSPC and NACE, you will receive two ballots and are asked to vote in both.

Should members not wish to vote via emailed ballot, NACE members can cast their votes through their member profile on nace.org and SSPC members can cast their vote via postal mail.

Any other questions about the voting process can be forwarded to news@sspc.org or cooperation@nace.org.
