The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation services on the General Pierce Bridge carrying Montague City Road over the Connecticut River between Greenfield and Montague, Massachusetts.

Built in 1947, the structure is comprised of a Pennsylvania through-truss span, a smaller Parker through-truss span and two steel stringer spans.

Bids were originally due June 2, but have since been extended to June 16.

The contract is estimated to cost $18,592,000.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is seeking contractors to perform rehabilitation services on the General Pierce Bridge carrying Montague City Road over the Connecticut River between Greenfield and Montague, Massachusetts.

The project includes cleaning and painting structural steel members below the deck of the truss spans (Spans 2 and 3) and painting of steel members (Spans 1 and 4). For members requiring full removal and recoating, the steel will be abrasive blast-cleaned to Near White standards (SSPC-SP 10) and re-coated with a three-coat organic zinc-epoxy-urethane system selected from NEPCOAT List B; this system is subject to change according to project requirements. The owner-approved manufacturers are Carboline, Ameron (PPG), International Paint and Sherwin-Williams.

For members requiring cleaning and overcoating, the steel will be prepared to spot Industrial abrasive blast-cleaning standards (SSPC-SP 14) and spot Power-Tool cleaning standards (SSPC-SP 3). The steel will be overcoated with a surface-tolerant coating system (NEPOVERCOAT List M); this system is subject to change according to project requirements. Approved manufacturers are Wasser, Carboline and Noxyde (U.S. Distribution by Rust-Oleum, a product of Mathys).
