Last week, NACE International, The Corrosion Society, announced the rollout of its flagship Coating Inspector Program where aspiring inspectors can learn through a series of online and in-person education formats.

Originally slated to be released this summer, NACE reports that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many student-registered in-person classes have since been canceled, causing NACE instructors to open their schedules to make up for the inconveniences.

Last week, NACE International, The Corrosion Society, announced the rollout of its flagship Coating Inspector Program where aspiring inspectors can learn through a series of online and in-person education formats.

“While these certainly weren’t the circumstances we envisioned when we developed our blended learning CIP courses, it’s fortunate we had the infrastructure and curriculum built and a team of instructors trained and ready to teach,” said NACE President Terry Greenfield.

“As we all find ourselves restricted from our usual routines and plans, I hope this helps NACE students make the most of this time by moving forward with their educational pursuits.”

According to NACE, the courses are broken down into two days of virtual theoretical education and three days of in-person training to be completed later. The format was chosen as to accommodate those who can’t travel or receive five consecutive days off work.

The virtual classes will be hosted as a synchronous learning experience where students and instructors can communicate in real time.

The first virtual CIP Level 1 course is slated to take place March 29-30. NACE adds that students who register for the hybrid CIP Level 1 between now and April 30 will also have access to Modules 3 and 4 of NACE’s Industrial Coating Application eCourse. The interactive learning portal is reported to offer additional materials for studying CIP concepts.

CIP Level 2 hybrid courses are expected to release in April. Interested students can register for the virtual classes by contacting blendedlearning@nace.org.

Other NACE-Related Cancellations

At the beginning of March, NACE announced that its annual CORROSION 2020 conference and expo would be postponed until June 14-18.

The news came after a NACE Board of Directors’ vote regarding the health and safety of the event’s attendees, speakers and exhibitors amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. At the time of the announcement, six cases of the virus were already confirmed in Houston.

Previously, the conference was slated to take place March 16-19 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

As a result of the decision, all Town Hall meetings slated to take place at the conference were also revised.

In an online format in which members worldwide can participate during a time of their choosing, the remaining Town Hall meeting schedule is as follows:

  • Town Hall No. 3 - Thursday, March 26, at 9 p.m. CST
  • Town Hall No. 4 - Friday, March 27, at 8 a.m. CST

While the meetings are free to attend, the organizations request that you register in advance by clicking the session of your choosing here. During the meetings, members are encouraged to actively engage in conversations, ask questions and share any comments and concerns.

During the meetings, NACE International Vice President, Tim Bieri, is slated to present an overview of the combined organization proposal. Additionally, Greenfield, NACE CEO Bob Chalker, SSPC Executive Director Bill Worms and other members of the NACE-SSPC Task Group will be present to answer questions and provide additional perspective.
