The American Concrete Institute recently announced an expanded partnership with the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute in a move that it says hopes to increase efficiency for design of structural precast concrete structures.

While the two organizations and their members have worked collaboratively for decades, ACI said, this partnership formalizes efforts and expands Committee 319, Precast Structural Concrete Code, into a joint committee cosponsored by both ACI and PCI.

The American Concrete Institute recently announced an expanded partnership with the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute in a move that it says hopes to increase efficiency for design of structural precast concrete structures.

The expansion is due, in part, to industry concerns for building code requirements that address the unique aspects of precast concrete design.

“By combining volunteer and staff efforts, ACI and PCI are well-positioned to produce new and user-friendly structural precast concrete building code requirements that complement existing code requirements, meet the needs of the industry, and ensure public safety and welfare,” stated Ronald G. Burg, PE, Executive Vice President, ACI

ACI-PCI Committee 319 will develop and maintain structural concrete code requirements both unique to the design of precast concrete and complementary to ACI 318, “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.”

“Establishing this joint committee meets the needs of both PCI and ACI members by incorporating specific precast concrete design knowledge and expertise from both organizations,” said Bob Risser, PE, President and CEO, PCI.

“Creating this new document will allow the codification of information that is already used by engineers and architects in everyday practice as well as providing one comprehensive document for the design of structural precast concrete.”
