Officials in Fayetteville, North Carolina, have recently been tasked with hiring an engineer to assess cracks at Segra Stadium, home of Minor League Baseball’s Fayetteville Woodpeckers (affiliated with the Major League’s Houston Astros).

The $40 million park was opened just last spring.

What’s Going On

Cracks were recently spotted in the park’s concourse, as well as other areas, and while officials assure the public that the cracks are nothing to be concerned about, the stadium’s team is reportedly hiring an independent consultant to come in and take a look.

Officials in Fayetteville, North Carolina, have recently been tasked with hiring an engineer to assess cracks at Segra Stadium, home of Minor League Baseball’s Fayetteville Woodpeckers (affiliated with the Major League’s Houston Astros).

″(The cracks) are sufficient enough that we wanted to have them evaluated. I think it’s in several spots,” City Manager Doug Hewett said adding “If there was any threat (from the cracks), we would not allow folks in there.”

Roslyn Henderson, senior project manager for stadium general contractor Barton Malow, said the cracks are superficial, according to the Fayetteville Observer.

“At this time, Barton Malow is working in conjunction with our subcontractors and the city manager to close on these final items that need attention,” Henderson said.

She went on to say that the contracting team is proposing a fix.

Other officials went on to note, however, that staining has also begun to occur around the cracks, suggesting a leak.

Who would pay for the repairs on the stadium, which had already ballooned in cost from its original estimate of $33 million in 2016, depends on the engineer’s report.
